W (English Edition) Door: John Banks,

A 1000-year-old Viking is discovered frozen on the slopes of Mt. Hood, Oregon – three thousand miles further west than any previously known European Viking-Age exploration. While the world is focused on this remarkable discovery, Josh Kinninger’s world is falling apart. Three personal tragedies have left him bitterly angry and emotionally unmoored. Inspired by the Viking discovery, Josh plans a desperate western journey of his own to wreak a bizarre vengeance on the morally corrupt individuals who have piqued his ire.Josh, however, isn’t the only Kinninger who tries to run away from his problems – and the problems of his country – by heading west.By turns comic and tragic, W weaves several stories and styles into a rich literary fabric. In addition to the story of how that Viking comes to reside in Oregon, there is the story of Josh’s ancestor, Jefferson, who in 1860 embarks on a journey by wagon train along the Oregon Trail to escape the violent strife preceding the Civil War. And there is the story of Jefferson’s namesake descendant, who, one hundred years later, takes off westward to escape the racism of the Jim Crow South and to make a new life in San Francisco as a jazz musician.

    W. E. B. Du Bois and the Sociology of the Black Church and Religion, 1897–1914 Door: Robert A. Wortham,

    W. E. B. Du Bois is the founding figure of the sociological study of the Black Church. His discussion of the six functions of Philadelphia’s Black Church in The Philadelphia Negro (1899) represented an early example of a “functional analysis” of a religious group. In The Negro Church (1903), he integrated the findings from religious census data, denominational statistics, small area surveys, ethnographic fieldwork, and historical studies to paint a picture of the vibrant role the Black Church played in the African American community. Du Bois discusses the Black Church in three of the essays included in The Souls of Black Folk (1903), other sociological essays and several Atlanta University Conference annual reports. Additionally, Du Bois’ perspective on the Black Church and the role of religion in the African American community can be gleaned from various poetic works, prayers, and editorials. W.E.B. Du Bois and the Sociological Study of the Black Church and Religion, 1897–1914 showcases a representative sample of classic studies on the Black Church and religion by a pioneer of American sociology.

W.M.Thackery and the Mediated Text: Writing for Periodicals in the Mid-Nineteenth Century: Writing for Periodicals in the Mid-Nineteenth Century Door: Richard Pearson,

This title was first published in 2000:  Thackeray's "minor writings" remain caught in a debate about what constitutes "literature" and whether magazine writing and journalism might be construed as such. This debate was present during the inception of the mass periodical press in the 1830s when Thackeray began his career and forms part of the context of, reasoning within, and techniques of Thackeray's work. Throughout his career, Thackeray was enmeshed in critical arguments about periodicals, novels, "realism" and commercialism. He was himself both (and neither) journalist and literary artist and was at once a product of and critical of emerging writing practices. This book argues that an understanding of Thackeray's writings for periodicals and the literary and commercial context of these is central to an understanding of his literary achievement. Focusing principally on the foundational part of his career, from 1833-1847, but relating this to the novels, particularly "Pendennis" and "The Adventures of Philip" and the "Cornhill Magazine" of the 1860s, the book explores Thackeray's ambiguous response to the burgeoning periodical press, and considers his negotation and critique of the market-place through a variety of publishing media.

W.O.R.D.~ Wisdom's Oil Released Daily (Somethings Made Plain Book 2) (English Edition) Door: Theresa Kirk,

W.O.R.D. ~ Wisdom's Oil Released Daily is the second volume of The Some Things Made Plain series. It offers bite-size biblical principles and features simplistic and impacting doctrine. Kirk explores the Word of God through seven specific topics; Jehovah or God's name; God Alone (His Attributes); Written in Stone (The 10 Commandments); Mind for the Call (Renewing the mind daily) Kirk Klan Faith (a series of testimonies); Kingdom Preparation (the practice of "living in heaven today") and Creative Power (using "The Holy Ghost in Action"). She incorporates histoical anecdotes and exhortations explaining the significance of biblical names. She lists the various blessings and wonders made by God, while there are countless credits to list for God, Kirk makes the inventory fun by reminding the reader of how we are connected in this relationship. Through the author's superb storytelling, she weaves a grand spool of inspirational tales that beckon one to become involved in a deeper spiritual walk with God.
